PERSONAL JEWELLER.

A progression to high-end quality jewellery – and a personal service

History

Roger Elliott Designs – The History

The progression to a ‘Personal Jeweller’ service, from the more conventional making of jewellery for galleries and shops, came about when an investor asked Roger, as a person known to be both trustworthy and expert in diamonds, to buy a substantial quantity of rough diamond stock on his behalf.  The experience of buying rough diamonds in South Africa and Namibia developed both Roger’s expertise in diamond quality and also his passion for the higher quality stones – which soon came to include high grade sapphires, rubies and other coloured gemstones too.  The retail shops are generally far more interested in cost than in quality, largely relying on sales technique and ingenuity of displays to sell what are often mediocre stones.

So, in order to enjoy sourcing, working with and supplying high grade diamonds and other gemstones Roger decided to focus on working directly for private clients.  Having previously worked from a combination of a shared workshop in Hatton Garden and his home workshop, Roger sought suitable premises to receive clients.  Having rejected the conventional idea of a High Street shop with workshop behind, he found the ideal solution in the unique setting of the Mews Studio in Nutfield. At that time the mews was behind an art gallery and design centre and the stylish yet relaxed mood, enhanced by the beautifully designed water garden courtyard, suited his purpose perfectly. Some structural adaptations were made to create a secure environment with workshop, gallery and a comfortable situation for clients to relax and discuss their wishes.  The workshop is well equipped to tackle all aspects of the goldsmith’s craft.

Gradually, a reputation developed across the South East for providing very high quality jewellery coupled with unhurried, personal customer service – a rare commodity in today’s world.  This more enjoyable and satisfying experience than buying in the high street or on-line, steadily built a solid client base.  With business developing assistant goldsmiths were added to the team.

So since 1999 Roger and his team have designed and created bespoke pieces of jewellery in precious metals set with high quality gems, for discerning individuals.  His skill is in creating modern innovative original designs and settings, using his earlier formal education in both aesthetic design and in properties of metals. His aim is to delight his clients with those creations.

“I just wanted to thank you once more for my fabulous ring!  It exceeded my expectations and I absolutely LOVE IT. Thank you so much for taking my dream and turning it into a perfect reality.”
